Jesse McCartney: new image, new sound

After releasing two Pop/Rock albums in 2004 (Beautiful Soul) and 2006 (Right Where You Want Me), Hollywood Records helped Jesse McCartney change his image. McCartney went from being the "surfer down the block," to the "bad boy dating your daughter."
His debut single "Leavin'" from the album "Departure" gave him his highest single on the Pop charts in the U.S., reaching No. 2. When the video hit media outlets, his image wasn't convincing. Let's face it - too many artists try to become something they're not. (And, half of them portray someone they're not.) This video showed he looked different and that was it.
When McCartney released his second single "It's Over," everything changed. He proved he was serious about the new sound he was creating. The R&B was fresh and as real as the artist singing the song. Though he's considered a Pop artist, once he released "Departure" he became an artist with R&B flair. He let go of his perfect image and changed his popular blonde hair to dark brown.
In summer 2009, he went on tour to open for New Kids on the Block. One of the song's he performed was "It's Over," which became an instant crowd-pleaser.

  2. Jesse never received as much recognition during this time. There was another member in the group named Chris Trousdale who at the time was more popular. Who knew Jesse had it in him to rise up and make such a musical crossover? That's very hard for artists who start at such a young age.
